Forming part of College Circle, the Academic Building resides in the heart of the Swainsboro campus. This assignment featured a first floor addition housing Biology Labs and classrooms. Renovations to the existing facility included a new Student Commons and Aerobics Room as well as utility improvements including adding a sprinkler system and lighting and flooring upgrades throughout. With its central location, the entry to the original facility addresses the formal quad whiles the addition provides a convenient access to students living in the residence halls across the lake.
Although the Campus wanted the facility to present a contemporary image, it was critical that the design was respectful of the East Georgia campus environment. The majority of the new building features a brick façade accented by both ground-face and split-face block. Large glass expanses will admit an abundance of natural light into the lobby and into each Biology Lab.
