Despite being housed in portable spaces for eight years, Georgia Southern University has developed one of the most successful ROTC programs in the country. A key objective for their new structure is to visually reinforce the Eagle Battalion’s presence on campus. The site is located between Highway 301 and Forest Drive along Old Register Road at a primary entry point on the western edge of the Georgia Southern campus. The site’s prominence demanded careful consideration of the building location since all sides will be highly visible. There are three basic elements. One is a two-story component housing classrooms, computer lab, conference room, offices, and support spaces. The second is a 1-1/2 story multi-purpose space to accommodate a variety of functions from indoor training to ceremonies. The third is a two story lobby that connects the other two pieces and provides a centralized gathering space for cadets.
